2011 Annual Meeting and Luncheon Highlights

Close to 200 attendess--a new attendance record enjoyed the Early Care & Learning Council Annual Meeting & Luncheon at the Albany Country Club in Voorheesville, New York. It was a wonderful afternoon where our members and friends gathered to celebrate the work and dedication of the Early Care & Learning Council to the field of Early Care and Education.  This celebration was also the stage for the presentation of our “Excellence in Leadership” awards.   This award was given to individuals or organizations that exercise exemplary leadership in advancing high quality early care and education in New York State.  Nominations came from all around the state and this year, we are honored to present “Excellence in Leadership” awards to the following outstanding recipients:

 

 

        Shirley A. Adams, Executive Director Catharine Street Community Center  

        Award presented by Jeanne Wagner, ECLC Board Member of Dutchess/Putnam Counties

         

        Catharine Street Community Center has been an integral component of the well-being of the City of Poughkeepsie’s children since 1922.  The Center caters to the vastly diverse needs of all children and focuses on developing the entire child.  Because of Catharine Street’s philosophy, the quality of life for children and families has and will continue to be positively enhanced.

         

        The Honorable Harriet Cornell, Chair, Rockland County Legislature

        Award presented by Jane Brown, ECLC Board President of Rockland County

         

      Harriet Cornell’s long record of accomplishments includes improved health services for women and children, enhanced educational resources for your community and your leadership role in the creation of Rockland Schools of the 21st Century, a collaboration of family, school, community, and government with the mission of helping every child achieve optimal development.

 

Maria Morelli -The Post Standard

Award presented by Peggy Liuzzi, ECLC Board Secretary of Onondaga County

 

The Post Standard in Syracuse has provided excellent in-depth coverage on issues affecting young children and their families. The Post Standard also, has for many years, used its editorial page to express strong and well-reasoned support for investments in early care and education.  The power of these Op Ed pieces to influence community opinion, and the opinions of community decision makers has been significant.

 

Special Recognition went to the following recipients:Staff of the Steuben Child Care Project and Executive Director, Carla Hibbard for becoming the first NACCRRA Quality Assured Child Care Resource & Referral Agency in the Nation.  

 

New Directors Institute graduates for their efforts and dedication to continual quality improvement in child care.
